Pleasant Valley’s girls basketball team has come into the year scorching hot. They start the year 3-0. This year’s team lacks what most teams depend on for their leadership: seniors. After losing three seniors last year, the team will have to look to fill their shoes and find motivation from others. The last time the girls basketball team had no seniors was back in the 2014-15 season. It’s not a common trend, for it has only happened twice in the past 10 years.
In the girls last game, they played Cedar Rapids Kennedy, and they really came out of the gates on fire; opening the game on an 18-2 run. Kennedy had to use three of their timeouts within the first five minutes just to try to slow the Spartans. But, that didn’t work because PV couldn’t miss. Rory Donahue, Grace Budde, and Ellie Spelhaug had a team high of 11 points each. Ranked fourteenth in the state, the team coasted to its third double-figure victory.
The Spartans look like they will be an exciting team to watch this year. It will be interesting to see how the dynamic of the team works with the absence of seniors. It looks to be a promising year for the Pleasant Valley Spartans girls basketball team.
