From dancing to limo rides to photo booths, the guests at Night to Shine had a night of fun with so many community members. PV student, Ella Hurst, is pictured at the event and enjoyed engaging with many of the honored guests.

Night to Shine is an annual prom-like experience which allows students with disabilities to walk the red carpet, dance and be crowned.

Started by the Tim Tebow Foundation in 2014, Night to Shine brings together communities around the world. Events are hosted by local churches and promote inclusivity among attendees creating a night to remember.

This special event wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of many businesses and individuals. Hosted at The Bend XPO on Feb. 10, 2023, several local establishments contributed financially to the efforts of the event, including The Black & Gold store, the Scott County Regional Authority, the Bettendorf Rotary and Risen Christ Lutheran Church.

In addition to the financial donors who made Night to Shine possible, there are several other establishments that contributed to running the event itself to create a magical evening. This year, Our Lady of the River Catholic Church and Bettendorf Christian Church hosted the event.

Pure Hair and Beauty Lounge contributes to the experience for the attendees as well. Since the past two years of the event have been virtual due to COVID-19, this year’s event was the first time back in person. The stylists at Pure Hair were ecstatic to have their special guests back in the salon.

Maddy Strusz, a hair stylist at Pure Hair, has participated in these services for the event for two years. “Pure provides complimentary hair and makeup services to those attending night to shine. It’s the most rewarding experience and we truly feel lucky to be a part of their special day. It’s amazing to see the joy on their faces, they are so deserving of it all,” Strusz stated.

The night is made extra memorable with the help of the numerous volunteers that dedicate their time to make sure all attendees feel special. Freshman, Mia Stocking had the opportunity to attend this year’s event as a volunteer. “I helped with the paparazzi. We stood lining the red carpet cheering on guests as they were announced one by one. I really enjoyed watching them come down the red carpet and seeing the joy on everyone’s faces. We cheered them on with signs, pom poms, noise makers, high fives, and more,” Stocking said.

This event is unforgettable for all involved and the volunteers bring the night to life with their enthusiasm and generosity. The guests are treated as celebrities and the night is centered around the message of loving everyone, no matter the differences.

“This event is very special to each and every one of the guests as it makes them feel important and loved by everyone there. As the night went on, I watched the volunteers become filled with joy and having an amazing time dancing, taking pictures, eating, going on limo rides, and more with the guests. It truly was a special night and I am honored I got to experience it with amazing guests and volunteers,” Stocking said.

Night to Shine is a notable event that allows all members of the community to unite with the common interest of creating a magical night for all the honored guests.
