During the week of April 3, Bud Light experienced vigorous public backlash after partnering with Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender influencer. This alliance has caused many people to boycott the brand altogether.
TikTok influencer and actress Dylan Mulvaney promoted Bud Light during the March Madness Final Four, leading some to speak out about their opinion on the brand.
Singer Kid Rock was one celebrity to promote the boycott of this brand. Rock posted a TikTok where he was shooting Bud Light products as a form of protest against the company’s decision to work with someone from the LGBTQ community.
Texas representative Dan Crenshaw was another public figure who voiced his opinion of the ad. He posted a video opening his fridge to show no Bud Light products. But his attempt to cancel the company backfired when many pointed out that his fridge was still full of Karbach beer, which had the same parent company as Bud Light, Anheuser-Busch.
Country singer John Rich has also admitted to pulling Bud Light from his bar in Nashville as a result of the boycott. He stated his reasoning for doing so was because of the lack of demand for the product. What had once been his top selling beer was now hardly getting any sales. Then, he asked his customers to comment on their top choice for a replacement beverage on Twitter.
Local bar and restaurant owner Brandon Albertson shared how Bud Light sales have been affected at his business. “We have had some customers opting to purchase other beer products vs. Bud Light (Anheuser-Busch) products. Some Bud Light/Budweiser customers have certainly brought up the controversy, but still choose to drink their Bud Light products. According to my Bud Light distributor, they said that they wouldn’t know the true impact until the end of next quarter, which would be by the end of June,” shared Albertson, Brandon’s Pub and Grille owner.
Anheuser-Busch has since spoken out about the controversy that was sparked from the ad, defending their choice to work with Mulvaney.
