With the rise of acceptance for LGBTQ+ communities, many writers have been creating the perfect LGBTQ+ stories for their audiences. Below is a list of 5 not-so-widely known books with LGBTQ+ main characters.

 

 

Fake Dates and Mooncakes by Sher Lee. (Gabi Ragins)

It’s like “Heartstopper meets Crazy Rich Asians” for Sher Lee’s debut novel “Fake Dates and Mooncakes”. The book is about Dylan Tang, who works for his aunts struggling Chinese takeout restaurant, and Theo Somers, a charming and wealthy boy who has family issues. Dylan wants to win a contest which will save his aunt’s takeout business, but Theo needs a date to his cousins’ wedding. Read to find out how these two boys will help each other overcome their fears and support one another!

 

 

She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen. (Gabi Ragins)

In Kelly Quinlens’ novel, “She Drives Me Crazy,” varsity basketball player Scottie Zajac and her nemesis Irene Abraham, captain of the cheerleading team, get into an accident that forces them to drive to school together. After an embarrassing loss to her ex-girlfriend, Scottie finds the perfect opportunity to get back at her ex and rise up the social ladder by dating her beloved enemy, Irene Abraham.  

 

Atlas Six by Olivie Blake. (Gabi Ragins)

Atlas Six by Olivie Blake is about the Alexandrian Society, a secret society of the world’s best magicians who care for the lost knowledge of the greatest empires.. Every year, they choose 6 new magicians to be instated into their society. However, the six this year have different dangerous challenges ahead of them. When the candidates meet the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they find out that only 5 of them will be initiated into the Alexandrian Society. Read to find out what will happen to the last of them.

 

 

Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst. (Gabi Ragins)

In the book, “Of Fire and Stars,” by author Audry Coulthurts, Princess Dennaleia has spent most of her life preparing for a future as the queen of Mynaria, However, her future becomes unbalanced when she arrives in Mynaria. Dennaleia has magical fire powers in a kingdom where magic is forbidden, and those powers are becoming out of her control. Instead of falling for her arranged husband, Prince Thandilimon, she falls for his sister, Princess Amaranthine. When an assassination brings the threat of war with a nearby kingdom, Denna must work with Mare to figure out how to prevent unnecessary bloodshed.

Over the course of the book, world-renowned celebrity Evelyn Hugo is telling her life story to a broke journalist, Monique Grant. Monique has been struggling for a decade in the journalism world while finalizing her divorce with her husband, so she decided to give her all into Evelyn’s biography. However, she has no idea why she was chosen for this exclusive interview. Evelyn’s story unfolds in chronological order all seven husbands and her lifetime love, to whom she couldn’t marry.

Gabi Ragins, Multimedia Manager
Gabi Ragins is a junior at Pleasant Valley High School and currently serves as the Multimedia Manager of Spartan Shield. She enjoys reading her favorite comfort books at whatever coffee shop she is trying out that week. In addition to reading many books, Gabi enjoys making experimental lattes, and she is always on the lookout for new noodle recipes because that’s the only thing she can cook. Amazingly, Gabi does many extracurricular activities including, but not limited to, Girls Learn International, Model Un, Young Women's Group, Students for Political Action, Volleyball, and Track and Field. Outside of school, she holds a job at the Isle Casino, and entertains herself with piano and Sims 4. Most importantly, Gabi can’t wait to help contribute and collaborate with the writers of the Spartan Shield!
