Setting goals on a calendar or in a journal is beneficial as they are easy to review often.

Goals can bring direction and meaning to many people’s lives. They can motivate people to get where they aspire to be in life and can provide clarity on their path to success.

People always have aspirations and dreams about their lives. Whether they want to attend an Ivy League college, get married and have kids, climb the highest mountains, become a doctor or travel the world. There are constantly new experiences and opportunities being chased in today’s world.

In order for people to accomplish what they want in life, it is important that they make goals. Both big and small goals can help create a visualization of what needs to be accomplished and give a plan for how to get it done.

Goals are essential tools for a successful life. Goals can increase focus on the task at hand, and following goals can lead to learning other valuable skills. “Setting goals has helped me to not only become a better person, but it also taught me various other life lessons such as time management, responsibility and pacing,” said senior Achinteya Jayaram.

Thought-out and precise goals, otherwise known as S.M.A.R.T. goals, make sure that people stay on track because they seem more achievable and are specific. Lazy goals are bound to fail, and many people do not stick to their goals due to the fact that they are hard to maintain and often require a lot of dedication and perseverance.

Many people think of goals as their New Year’s resolutions that come and go at the beginning of every year; however, successful goals are far more extensive. Goals should be constantly reviewed and reflected on to see the past progress that has been made. It is important to be constantly reminded of goals and many recommend writing them down and putting them in places where they can be read every day.

Seeing and reciting these goals can give a reminder of the impact they can make and can inspire people to push through adversity. “Goals are very beneficial because they motivate you to do your best work no matter what,” expressed Ainsley Hindman.

Goals are all about improving oneself. A goal should not just be aimlessly stating a want or a desire, but a thorough process and plan on how to achieve something to the best of one’s ability. “Goals are important for successful people because although the term success can be objective, everyone wants to improve at the end of the day,” stated Jayaram.

Success is not given, it is worked for and nurtured throughout life. Not everyone that works hard will succeed, but behind every successful person is years of hard work and determination. Setting goals and having stepping stones towards dreams is important when striving towards success.

Goals are a great habit to get into and encourage a better life with more drive and motivation. Along with creating success and developing new skills, goals will promote self esteem and produce a higher level of value in life.
