More than 50 clubs exist at the high school, and each caters to a unique interest. Some clubs are on the rise but have not yet achieved the same popularity as others. Read some of the descriptions of these clubs below!
- Astronomy Club
Students can explore astronomical events and celestial bodies at this club, with weekend trips to observatories and local planetariums as a highlight. Meetings are held on Thursdays after school in room 242.
- Computer Science Club
The rise of AI is coupled with the advancement of high school computer science. Students can gain hands-on experience with creating applications, games and websites. Because coding is a team effort, students can choose to either work alone or with other club members. They meet on Monday mornings at 7:20 am in room 248.
- Math Club
Math is a broad field, and this club dives into just that. Students can gain a solid understanding of mathematical concepts and strategies they can use in the classroom and future. Everyone trains to also compete in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC). Meetings are held on weekends at the Bettendorf Library.
- Science Bowl (Scholastics Bowl)
Teams must work together to demonstrate knowledge across the curriculum in “Jeopardy” like format. Students must “buzz in” to answer questions first. One way the club appeals to a broader range of students is by hosting competitions between schools in both Iowa and Illinois. Meetings are held after school on Mondays in room 243.
- Mock Trial Club
The Iowa State Bar Association sponsors competitions between students. Young leaders can gain experience in the legal system by practicing their research and presentation skills. Each side represents the defendant or accused, much like in a real-life setting. Meetings are held on Thursdays at 7:30 am in room 264.
- Women in STEM Club
A growing club at the high school and university level, it encourages girls to get interested in STEM-related careers – addressing the gender gap. Students meet with professionals in the field to better engage with the STEM community. Meetings are held on Wednesdays at 7:30 am in room 260.
