Coraline is a stop-motion film created in 2009, based on the novel. It is a dark fantasy/horror film that follows the protagonist, Coraline. She discovers a secret door in her new home that leads to an alternate universe, in which she discovers her “Other Mother” wants to trap her there. This movie is ranked #1 on the list because there is an abundance of small details and conspiracies people have related to the movie. Some of those are that she never left the alternate universe or that the other world is a representation of her subconscious fears, making the movie more psychological.
2. The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Nightmare Before Christmas is a stop-motion animated movie produced by Tim Burton in 1993. The movie begins by following Jack Skellington, known as “The Pumpkin King,” meaning he is the most celebrated figure in Halloween Town. He becomes bored with Halloween and travels to Christmas town, where the rest of the movie shows his journey through Christmas town and his eventual appreciation for his own holiday. This movie earned its 2nd place spot because it is an amazing classic Halloween movie a majority of people have watched.
3. Corpse Bride
Corpse Bride is a claymation film directed by Tim Burton and Mike Johnson and it was released in 2003. The movie is set in a Victorian-era village where a young man, Victor, practices his wedding vows to his arranged marriage, Emily. While practicing, he places the wedding ring on the finger of a corpse who rises from the ground and brings him to the land of the dead. The movie is a mixture of touching heart-felt moments with hints of comedy. It flips expectations showing the afterlife in this universe is full of color, leaving the audience with creative and memorable characters.
4. Frankenweenie
Frankenweenie was released on Oct. 5th 2012, with stop-motion by Tim Burton. It follows a boy named Victor who brings his beloved dog back to life with science. But, Sparky gets loose and the whole town ends up learning about his experiment, which leads to wild adventures. It is a classic monster tale with a lot of interesting unique quirks, making it rank fourth on the list.
