Producing gas is a natural body function, but some foods make the digestive system a wind machine. If you have wondered why after certain meals you feel super full, here is a top-five list of foods that are most likely to make someone fart.
- Beans
- Beans have a lot of carbs in them, containing oligosaccharides that the body has problems digesting. When bacteria build up on these undigested carbs, they produce gas and cause bloating.
- Dairy Products
- People with lactose intolerance find cheese, milk and other dairy products to be their ops. Lactose is a sugar that must be digested by an enzyme called lactase. If there is not enough lactase, the lactose fills up the stomach and creates gas.
- Cruciferous Vegetables
- Cabbage, brussel sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower contain a good amount of fiber. Though these make for a healthy diet, they also promote gas formation.
- Carbonated Drinks
- Soda and sparkling water may not seem like foods but are worth mentioning. Bubbles in soda and other carbonated drinks are full of carbon dioxide. These gases can build up in the stomach. As some of the gas exits as a burp, but the remainder goes through as farts.
- Fried and fatty foods
- Greasy meals take longer to digest, and while food is in the stomach, it has the tendency to form gas. Fried foods will also interrupt the process of producing gas.
