Recently cars have been developing to add and expand safety features to make driving safer. However, some developments in cars have made driving more dangerous for those around them opposing what the changes have been made for.
Cars have experienced a lot of growth in recent years with many new features being introduced to make driving safer and easier. Some of these improvements include autopilots, blind spot alarms and improved backup cameras.
Despite all of these changes being made for the better, driving on the roads can feel more dangerous than it ever has before.
A popular American trend is large trucks and cars having been growing in size. “The average vehicle footprint expanded 6 percent between 2008 and 2023, a ‘historic high,’ according to an EPA report,” wrote David Zipper.
These larger bodied cars can make driving on highways and interstates feel more crowded than ever. “Driving around trucks can be annoying and a little scary. They are very large and I sometimes worry they don’t see my car passing them,” stated senior Jacob Kustes.
These larger sized cars can be very annoying for drivers to deal with. Another annoying feature that can jeopardize road safety are the LED and HID headlights.
These headlights are extremely bright even on their lower settings. Headlights have been increasing in brightness over the years and it’s getting to be ridiculous. Being brighter can only help drivers to some degree and there’s a point where it is no longer useful.
From other drivers perspectives it can be extremely hard to see and these features that are being developed to help protect drivers may actually be endangering them even more.
Senior Landon Wiese shares similar concerns. “When driving at night I worry about super bright headlights. They can make driving much more difficult and distract me from the road,” commented Landon.
But while some new headlights are becoming too bright, some can’t even be seen at all. Tesla’s Cybertrucks have recently been receiving backlash for the cars poor winter resilience.
Although the car was expected to excel during the winter time, it has run into a major problem that was somehow overlooked by manufacturers. The headlights are easily frozen and snowed over making them shine little to none at all.
This has made Cybertrucks a liability during the winter time and requires extra attention from drivers if they wish to drive when it is dark out.
Overall cars have been developing for the better including more and more safety features to make roads safer. But, a few overlooked features and trends may make other drivers more uneasy on the road around the newer model cars.
