Sophomore Maddie Millage started her running journey in 7th grade. Five years later, she is a vital member of the varsity cross country and track team.
“My parents did triathlons and half marathons so I’ve been running as long as I can remember. We would do the turkey trot and Bix and my parents also hosted a neighborhood fun run and kids triathlon for the enjoyment of our neighborhood,” said Millage.
To continuously perform at a higher level, Millage trains throughout the year to be prepared for both seasons. For cross country, Maddie participates in the annual summer runs at Crow Creek Park; for the track season, she does similar training including indoor runs and plyometric sessions. An easy day of training for her consists of a five mile run, six strides, core and stretching.
Training also brings the team closer together as the season begins. “It is so much fun as you get to know the team and get used to training together before school begins. The team is really close and we never go through a practice without laughing,” expressed Millage.
For the past two years, Maddie has been a vital part of both the state-champion varsity cross country and track teams. “Maddie is an amazing teammate because she is so supportive and always has a positive attitude. She has been really welcoming to me as a freshman and a great role model,” shared freshman Peyton Rexroth.
As a member of the choir and an executive officer on Spartan Assembly, Maddie is both a dedicated student and a successful athlete. She is also an active member of her church, Coram Deo, where she sings on the worship team for Youth Group and participates in Women’s Bible studies.
Whether out on the track or inside a classroom, Millage’s drive and enthusiasm make her a standout athlete. With her positive mindset and passion for running, she will continue making strides and Pleasant Valley and beyond.
