When you think of artists you probably picture people like painters, photographers, drawers or musicians, but not fine artists like writers. This artist of the week is just that. Sarah Yoerger is a very talented writer here at Pleasant Valley, who has been involved in many higher english courses at the school since her freshman year.
Beginning in grade school, Yoerger had a love for writing. She pursued this love by participating in writing camps as a young kid and now has taken both AP english classes here at the high school.
This semester Yoerger is taking a creative writing class from Mr. Gaffney and has found a writing style she really enjoys. Sarah said, “I haven’t ever really had any talent in drawing or music, but with writing I found my medium. I didn’t have to be born with a singing voice or painting abilities, but I have found a passion for something that I can improve on through practice.”
Yoerger likes creative writing in particular, because of the freedom it gives. There are no real rules to it, unlike a non-fiction paper with an intro, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Instead, fiction writing allows for different styles like poetry, prose, and of course imagination. Mr. Gaffney said, “Sarah’s writing exemplifies creative thought with strong description and subtle humor. It makes her writing stand out as an individual voice.”
Writing is often overlooked as an art, but Yoerger has shown it is a passion to be pursued and recognized. She is surely a talented artist here at Pleasant Valley high school.
