Lauren Nelson, junior at Pleasant Valley, is involved in many different things such as cheerleading, modeling, and art. Nelson spends a lot of her free time doodling in notebooks and expressing herself through drawing, painting and just about anything else she can get her hands on. Nelson is transferring to an arts school in the fall and could not be more excited for what her future holds.
What kind of art do you do?
I like drawing small patterns and designs that make up a bigger picture. I am good at drawing mandalas and enjoy drawing things that look ‘cute’ to the eye.
What inspires you? Is there any particular person who has influenced your art?
I’m usually inspired by however I’m feeling at the time, with my work reflecting my mood. My grandpa has done a lot of artwork. I never knew him very well, but when I look at his work I see some of myself in it. He is definitely a huge inspiration to me.
What type of art do you enjoy the most?
I love painting, even though I am not super great at it, because it is very relaxing.
What is the art school you will be attending in the fall? What are you excited for?
I auditioned for an art school in Florida called Cypress Lake Florida. It gives me all the classes I need to graduate high school, while giving me the opportunity to study art more in depth than I am able to do at Pleasant Valley. I am excited to be able to direct my focus more into art.
What classes or clubs have you been a part of at Pleasant Valley?
My extra curriculars don’t allow me much time to be a part of the art clubs that Pleasant Valley offers, but I have taken all the drawing and painting classes. I am currently in AP art and enjoy it. I spend a lot of time at home drawing and painting.
Do you want to pursue a career in art? If so, what?
I would love to pursue a career where I am constantly being creative. I want to be an interior designer.
