Pleasant Valley High School athlete Carson Sutherland, senior, plays soccer. He plays center and holding mid. He grew up playing a variety of sports and all different positions. The first time Sutherland played soccer was when he was four years old. He is determined to make his last year playing high school soccer his best.
With soccer as Sutherland’s main sport, he is very committed to the team. He is one of the two varsity soccer team captains. Sutherland said, “My team this year is filling their potential. I am very proud of how far my team has come this far.”
Sutherland is also on the Cedar River Soccer team. This is his first year on this club team, which practices year-round. During the summer of 2017, Sutherland and his club team are going to regionals in South Dakota, where they are competing for a regional championship.
For the rest of the season with the Pleasant Valley soccer team, he is continuing to set goals for himself and his teammates. Sutherland said, “My goal for my team and myself is to make it to state for the time in Spartan history. This is something I can see this team doing this year.”
As he looks forward to his future at college, he is excited to be playing soccer at the University of Dubuque next year. There, Sutherland is going to study computer information technology. As he leaves the team next year, his teammates and coaches will miss having him as a leader on the team.
Sutherland is known to be a team leader on and off the field, and all of his teammates agree with this. Teammate Collin Kuebrich, junior, said, “Sutherland has really shown us he is a team player this year. He has brought the team closer during our team bonding exercises.”
