With the homecoming dance right around the corner this Saturday, Pleasant Valley has already kicked off the week-long festivities leading up to the Friday night football game and first dance of the year. Traditionally, this has always included a week full of fun and exciting outfit themes, and Spartan Assembly continues to carry themes out while keeping their own, recent addition: the Homecoming Carnival.
The Homecoming Carnival premiered last year, following the annual parade on the Thursday night before the football game. Being created and run by Spartan Assembly students such as current senior and Executive Team member Haley Germain, the carnival provided another way for Pleasant Valley High School to showcase a plethora of student clubs and activities, as well as rally support for the game and area hunger relief. Germain ‘18 noted, “Last year’s carnival was really successful, and it created a lot of positive school spirit. We were excited with the turnout we had and hope to build upon it this year, possibly using it as a fundraising tool for the Student Hunger Drive.”
This year, Spartan Assembly is planning to bring back the infamous teacher dunk tank and bring in more food trucks and activities. Teacher Advisor for Spartan Assembly, Megan Dixon, emphasizes that, “the goal for this year’s carnival is to expand. We really want to encourage more students from the middle school and elementary schools to attend this year with their families. With that being said, our hope is for more students and clubs at the high school to take on an active leadership role.”
This leadership has already begun as many students around the school dress up for the daily themes. With lots going on and the approach of the biggest fall events of the year, Spartan Assembly looks to do everything possible to ensure that this week goes smoothly. Germain ‘18 admits, “Homecoming week is always crazy, but the effort and participation by student council and everyone else really makes this week one to remember.”
