Let’s get ready to crumble!

Lets+get+ready+to+crumble%21

Fall is the season of baking. These seasonal foods are full of exotic spices and flavors. Jenna Ruccolo shares, “Baking is a very good stress reliever. Fall is full of all kinds of fun ingredients to work with such as apples, pumpkins, and cinnamon.” Fall is the perfect time to whip up something warm and tasty.

Crisp apples are ripe and waiting to be picked. They long to be put into a delicate treat. According to PV students, apple crisp is a favorite fall dessert. The contrast of buttery, sweet granola against the soft, baked apples calls for a whirl of flavor. Nothing beats a bowl of fresh-baked apple crisp with a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream. This homemade recipe is fun, quick, and easy. Celebrate fall by putting those picked apples to use!

Ingredients for filling:

  • 10 cup apples, peeled, cored, and diced. Try to use 5 cups of Granny Smith and 5 cups Gala or Honeycrisp
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons water, apple cider or apple juice

Crust:

  • 2 cups quick cooking oats
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter melted

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Place the sliced apples in a 9X13 pan.
  • Mix the white sugar, flour, cinnamon, and ground nutmeg together. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples.
  • Sprinkle the water, cider, or juice over all.
  • Combine all of the crust ingredients. Sprinkle evenly over the apple mixture.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes, or until apples are soft and the crisp is boiling around the edges.

Impress friends and family with this simple, delicious recipe!
