The 320-member Pleasant Valley Spartan Marching Band kicked off its season by performing at the first home football game of the year. The band opened up the night with pre-game, followed by a halftime show and pep band during the fourth quarter. At halftime, they presented the crowd with the show “Cinematic Sequels” in which they performed the songs “Gonna Fly Now”, “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens-Part 3.” In case you missed the show, check out the video below or visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oLzrihco4M.
This year’s drum majors are Samina Abdullah, Bailey Connors, Vincent Gnad, Mallory Obenauf, and Ellie Zupancic.
Drum major Ellie Zupancic, senior, says, “It feels great to be in a position that so many people I respected the last three years also got to be in. Also, I get to wear a cape, which is definitely a plus.”
The Spartans have been preparing since before school started. This group engaged in marching band camp which was held during the end of summer. They welcomed the freshmen/new members to the band family and got a head start for the season.
“Our marching band is different in that there’s so many people and we play new shows every single game,” says junior Jenna Ruccolo, a section leader for the clarinets. “I love how inclusive everyone is, and that PV band welcomes everyone, even if you do lots of other activities. Being in a band with so many other people is really rewarding.”
