Famous actor, Daniel Day Lewis, has announced his retirement from acting. In a statement made by Lewis’ spokeswoman Leslee Dart in Variety magazine, “Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.”
Lewis is the one of the three men to ever win the Academy Award for Best Actor three times in his career. He is put on a pedestal for being one of the greatest actors to walk the earth. Lewis is known for his dramatic roles as Abraham Lincoln in “Lincoln”, Daniel Plainview in “There Will Be Blood”, and William Cutting in “Gangs of New York”. His talent is seen in his use of accents and detailed preparations for each role he plays.
Although the news of his retirement is a blow to the filmmaking community, a film titled “Phantom Thread”, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson is set to release on December 25, 2017. This is said to be Lewis’ final film. Anderson and Lewis have previously collaborated in the award winning historical drama, “There Will Be Blood”, a decade ago.
The trailer was recently released, displaying Lewis as a dressmaker in post-war London in the 1950s named Reynolds Woodcock. “My brother can feel cursed that love is doomed for him,” a narrating voice says about Woodcock. Just by seeing this trailer, fans in the comments are already feeling another Oscar win for Lewis. If this becomes a reality, Lewis will stand alone as the only man to win the Academy Award for Best Actor four times, proving him to be one of the best actors in Hollywood.
