Football star, Tim Tebow, had a baseball workout in front of twenty-eight major league baseball teams Aug. 30th. Just recently, the New York Mets signed Tebow to the minor league contract and received a one hundred thousand dollar signing bonus. Tebow is a very passionate and hard working man as exhibited by his past with his football career. “For me, when I commit to do something, it’s my word. It’s more than a contract, because it’s my integrity and it’s who I am.” Tebow stated.
Tebow starts his major league baseball career at the age of twenty-nine, which is a bit old for a minor league prospect like himself. General manager of the New York Mets, Sandy Alderson, understands the challenges Tebow faces. “We’re mindful of the fact that Tim is starting this endeavor at age 29, and there’s a certain amount of realism we have to accept. But we’re not really thinking about that. We’re thinking about the beginning of his journey and not the end.”
The Mets will send Tebow down to Port St. Lucie, Florida for an instructional league. Tebow has a conflict with the league because he has a commitment with the SEC college football network, as an analyst. Every Thursday, Tebow will miss the instructional league. This causes several people to raise questions about how serious Tebow really is about his baseball career. He explained, “During the week, I’ll be training as hard as I can. Like Mr. Alderson said, you’ve got to take a break every now and then. One day a week will give me a chance to rest up and get back at it the next day. I don’t really view it as not taking this seriously…”
Tim Tebow will put forth his best effort and try to outwork everyone. It will be exciting to see Tebow compete at this different level.
