Hurts Donuts Co. Gourmet Donut Shop started off as a small company in Springfield, Missouri in 2013. Their sweet, handmade donuts quickly gained popularity and branched out to several cities, including Iowa City and Coralville. Since their opening in these areas, people in the vicinity have been traveling far to taste their fried desserts.
On January 25, 2018, Hurts Donuts Co. hinted on Twitter that the company is branching out to the following areas: Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Colorado Springs, Memphis, Nashville, Quad Cities, Omaha and Waco. Last Monday, Paige Howard, owner of the West Des Moines and Coralville branches, confirmed that the Quad Cities area will have a Hurts Donuts Shop sometime in 2018, but she has not announced an opening date.
The Quad Cities area has not had a big donut company since Krispy Kreme closed in 2008. Kids were devastated by this loss. Students are very excited about this news. Subrat Acharya, senior, said, “It will be nice to not have to drive so far to get good food. I feel that opening a Hurts Donuts Shop in the Quad Cities will be good for their business.”
Senior Jenna Ruccolo says, “I spent a lot of my sophomore and junior year driving up to Iowa City for soccer. I am so happy that they are opening a branch here at home. They’re open for 24 hours and if you have a sweet tooth, they have the best treats to satisfy your cravings.”
Though there is no official opening date, you can stay updated through the company’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
