Just recently the Iowa High School Athletic Association added a new event to boys track. The new event is the 800M Sprint Medley Relay. After interviewing the boys track Head Coach Chris Bryant, he explained the event, “There are four participants in each relay; the first two runners run 100M each, the third runner runs a 200M leg and the fourth runner anchors the race running a 400M leg.”
The girls have been running this race for some time now. Coach Bryant showed his enthusiasm for the event, “…it is a very fast and exciting race.” as he does not have much experience with this event in particular. He is hoping to overcome his lack of experience with this event, with the great deal of experience he has both, running and coaching short distance events.
This new event brings new opportunities for boys track athletes to get into a new race. One they have never run before in their high school track careers. Coach Bryant has not made up his mind on any runners yet but he did have some promising words to say about this year’s track team. “We will have a number of sprinters and middle distance runners this season who should be able to contribute to a successful sprint medley team. I’m looking forward to having one of the best sprint medley teams in the state this year.”
