Evan Bubbers is currently a senior at Pleasant Valley. He became interested in ceramics sophomore year when he took Devin Hanson’s ceramics class. Bubbers expressed his feelings and stated, “I wasn’t in love with it at first but after I got to the wheel, I started to enjoy it a lot more.” Right now he is enrolled in AP art but is still doing ceramics in his free time but with over 200 pieces, Bubbers claims that, “ceramics is my life.”
What was your favorite art class to take at Pleasant Valley?
My favorite art class to take here would be advanced ceramics because you were given topics like “mutated” and then you could do whatever you wanted with it. I like this because it gave me a lot of artistic freedom.
What is your biggest inspiration on the wheel?
I like to explore different ideas on the wheel and when I find one I like, I work on making it better.
What is your favorite piece you’ve ever made?
I like this one the most (pictured above) because of how sleek it is and how the pot curves nicely.
Is there a certain message you are trying to convey through your art?
I like to take a more simplistic route.
Do you think you will pursue ceramics after high school?
I will probably do it as a hobby, but as of right now I do not plan on making it my career.
What are your thoughts on Mr.Hanson leaving and what impressions did he leave on you?
There was a lot to learn from him but the more teachers you have, the more you can grow. I feel that I have a part of his style still in my art, but also a lot of my own.
