The PV boys cross country team had an outstanding meet in Geneseo this past Saturday. In Geneseo, the meet is run a lot differently than any other meets the team goes to all season. Compared to other meets, which have a fresh/soph race, a varsity race (top 7), and a jv race, the Geneseo meet has an individual meet for each grade.
That means each grade has a unique opportunity to run against guys in their own grade only. That means if a senior is on varsity, he will run with his fellow seniors instead of with the other fastest guys. Friends that might not get race each other normally now get the opportunity to. On the same note, if you are a senior and there is a junior faster than you, you don’t have to worry about him beating you. He won’t even race you!
Geneseo is also very generous when it comes to giving out medals and plaques. The top 20 runners from each race get a medal, providing a great opportunity to pick up their first medal of the season! “It was a great feeling to medal and score for our team. I am glad our hard work is paying off,” stated Noah Streeter. Each team can also win a plaque for their race. If a team wins 3 or more of their grades races then they can take home the overall boys champion plaque.
Two years ago the PV boys and girls team went to Geneseo. The boys won every single race, freshman through senior. The girls did just as well, and that qualified the team as a whole to bring home the overall boys and girls champion, as long as all their other plaques.
This past Saturday was just as successful. The freshman boys swept their race with Tarun Vedula getting second place. The next four boys to score placed fourth, seventh, eleventh and twelfth. The sophomore race was led by Grant Tebbe placing third overall. Following him was PV runners picking up fourth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and tenth. The juniors was well represented by Kyle Knedler getting seventh. Not far behind him four more PV runners got eighth, ninth, fourteenth, and fifteenth. Finally the seniors also managed to snatch first place with Cole Hanson crossing the line in tenth place. The next four seniors to finish got twelfth, thirteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth.
Even though none of the boys got first place individually, they relied on their teammates to help them win. “The course was very difficult but with the help from my coaches and teammates, that’s all the support I needed to push through and gladly help the team to victory in our race. Just proud to have a team I know I can count on to push through and win.”, said Kyle Knedler. The team came home with all four plaques from each race, and a plaque for overall boys champion. Along with plenty of medals to go around, the team headed home satisfied and confident for there next meet in dubuque.
