As most students have been calling it, October is officially the “spooky season”. This means it’s almost Halloween, the best time of the year to watch scary movies and visit haunted houses. Along with those festivities, it’s time to get dressed up in a creative costume.
This year, fewer high school students are dressing up in scary costumes and more are dressing like celebrities and characters. This weekend, sophomore Reese Linemann dressed up as JoJo Siwa. “I chose my costume because it was super easy to put together and I could match my friends without having the exact same costume.” This unique choice was a huge hit and grabbed the attention of her peers.
Students also dressed as Ariana Grande, Veronica Lodge, Mrs. Incredible, and Cardi B. Veronica Lodge is a character from the show Riverdale on the CW. Kids who love the show are dressing up as Veronica, her best friend Betty, and many more. “Riverdale isn’t going out of style any time soon. There are plenty of characters to choose from to dress up as from this show, but we love the River Vixens cheer uniform,” said popsugar magazine.
Like every other year, various students are dressing in career uniforms. Many wear cop, flight attendent or sergeant costumes. Just this Saturday, lots of girls were dressed in camo. The look is easy to put together and very cute, since camo is in this season. “Goodwill is my go-to place for a quick costume. Throw on some black clothes with a camo shirt and you’ve got a costume,” said junior Belle Bormann.
According to elite daily, one of the most popular costumes this year will be 90’s icons. In the past year, stores have seen a rise in sales of 90’s-style clothes. “Halter necks, throwback logos, crop tops and chokers were amongst the most purchased fashion items this summer. If you have any of these hanging in your closet right now, you can repurpose them into an on-trend costume.”
This year, the simpler the better. Teens often find themselves looking for a costume quickly before a Halloween party. Not to fret, the best costumes at the party are often DIY projects. Boys tend to go for less intricate costumes, so a simple Jersey from their closet always works.
