It was a successful season for the boys golf team as they placed second in the state just behind Waukee. The boys played extremely well, coming up just 7 strokes short of a first place finish. Lucas Wendel, senior, said, “We played how we wanted to but we would’ve liked to play better at some meets where we could’ve placed better. We achieved our goal tho of getting to state and giving ourselves a chance to win.”
This season was one to be remembered for the team. They played very well at every meet they competed in. Out of all the meets and invites they participated in, they placed in first for all of them except two. However, this success was just the beginning for the team.
In the ensuing weeks, the team continued on to the MAC Championship, where they placed first and moved onto the district competition. They showed just how capable they were at that level as well, grabbing another first place finish to move on to state.
Their skill at the state level was put to the ultimate test as they competed against some of the best teams across Iowa. Our team was ready though, and in the end, they accomplished an amazing feat, reaching second in the state.
PV’s golf team has been very competitive and on top of their game for a number of years and this year was no exception. They managed to do something that not many schools are able or determined enough to do. Lots of practice and hours on the course prepare them for every competition and eventually it took them to the highest level. As McKinley Elg, sophomore, says, “With all the time practicing, and with an awesome coach, we got where we were and did well this season, hoping to get further next season.” The golf team did very well this year, and they expect more success to come.
