As the winter season is rolling in, the demand for hot drinks to warm up with increases. Pleasant Valley High School solves this problem with the opening of their own coffee bar located in the commons, right where most students enter to get into school.
The idea for the coffee shop has existed long before recent graduates can remember. However, since the addition of the new commons, there now exists a specific location that mimics a real coffee bar. Before the new commons, students would line up at the special education classrooms to receive their drinks.
Susan Anil, a student executive for Spartan Assembly stated, “We make a schedule, order supplies, and train representative on the assembly. We are right now scheduled to go until April. The official name for the coffee shop is the PVHS Spartan commons coffee.”
The drinks offered at the Spartan coffee shop vary between the years. Usually, they offer basic drinks such as frappuccinos, frozen hot chocolate, and coffee. Occasionally they will offer special additions to these drinks such as chocolate or caramel syrups, vanilla flavoring, and more.
Alyssa Paulson, a current senior, stated, “the PVHS coffee shop offers a lot of different drinks, my personal favorite is the frozen hot chocolate.”
Compared to other local coffee shops, the Spartan coffee shop is unique in the fact that students will directly support their own schools. Not only that but the prices of the drinks is much cheaper than what students can find around them. The profit made from selling drinks goes back to Spartan Assembly.
The idea of the coffee shop proves to be a good one as it brings it quite a lot of profit for Spartan Assembly. Last year, it was an estimated of 600 dollars in profit which went to funding events such as the Student Hunger Drive, PV Palooza, and more.
The opening of the PVHS coffee bar was Dec. 3 and it will continue to be open for the rest of the winter season.
