Carter Duwa, senior and varsity basketball player, has had a love for the game his entire life.
Duwa developed the love of basketball from his dad. His father was the head coach for Pleasant Valley basketball for years, and is now the assistant basketball coach at Augustana College.
Duwa remembers going to nearly every practice with his dad at a very young age and was completely mesmerized by the game. “Going to basketball practices with my dad was definitely where I found the love for the game,” stated Duwa.
Because of his hard work throughout his entire life, Duwa has been on Pleasant Valley’s varsity basketball team every year in high school. He was also named an All Conference player his sophomore and junior years of school.
Duwa has always been set on doing more than he has to, and is always trying to improve his game. Pleasant Valley isn’t the only team that is benefited by him. When he wasn’t playing for school, he played for an Amateur Athletic Union team called the Iowa Preps. While on this team, he would play tournaments in the spring and in the summer.
Duwa talked with many schools such as North Central, Wheaton, Wisconsin LaCrosse and Southwest Minnesota State. However, Augustana is the school that has the pleasure of having Duwa on their basketball team. He took the time to look at other schools, but Augustana was the college he always wanted to attend.
In November of 2018, Duwa announced that he will be continuing his academic and basketball career at Augustana College.
Hayden Guenzler, a member of the varsity basketball team said, “Carter is great at making his teammates comfortable on the court and is also a great leader. We can also always rely on him for giving us some laughs.” It’s Duwa’s personality and his commitment to the team that makes him such a valued player.
Duwa finished with, “All of my teammates have pushed me to become a better player as well as make my high school basketball career really fun.” It’s Duwa’s humbleness and selflessness that makes him a great person to look up to.
