As Halloween season reaches its peak, a bevy of activities are available for all ages. One such activity is the haunted theatre hosted at the high school.
Hosted by the PV Drama department, students decorate the walls of the black box, creating a spooky setting. Kids from around the school district gather to the school to celebrate the fall festivities.
The haunted theatre always comes during the hunger drive season, and is one of many different ways that activities around the school are collecting cans to support those in need. Senior Anna Myatt is one of many members who are involved with the event this year. Myatt said, “It’s important to raise funds for the student hunger drive and contribute in any way possible.”
Having an event like the haunted theatre lets students to do the activities that they enjoy, create a fun experience for those who attend, and help give back to the community. “The best part is seeing little kids have a lot of fun for a good cause”, said Myatt.
While the haunted theatre raises funds for the hunger drive, it also is important to the department themselves. Events like these allow for the department to connect with children who could begin to develop an interest in theatre and help inspire younger generations.
Although the haunted theatre’s premise remains the same through the years, they provide a new experience every year. This year, the theatre is themed “Stranger Things”. Having this theme provides a fun experience for all ages as the show is popular with kids, teens, and adults.
The event has attracted countless people over the years, many of whom are in high school now. Senior John Mendelin described his experience with the event as “a fun experience for all who are involved and a creative way to help the community”.
The perennial event has been one of the most popular activities for students around the Quad Cities. It takes place on October 23 at the high school.
