The Pleasant Valley swim team has had a lot to celebrate this past week. They won the Cedar Falls invite with 492 points, Dowling Catholic came in second with 475.
With only individual first places finishes from Kevin Burke, sophomore, Nathan McKay, junior, and Sam Lundry, senior, it shows the depth the team has. Stacey Zapolski, head coach, says, “The PV boys’ swim team has a fairly large core group of varsity swimmers whose diversity in swimming lots of events well, has led to this.”
With the stellar swims the Spartans had, they were able to move to the number one spot for the team power rankings with Ames as second and Dowling Catholic third.
Zapolski is very excited for the team but would like to remind them to remember to keep focusing on the district and state meet in February. “It’s a nice recognition, but the team understands that the focus needs to be swimming our best in February, when it matters the most.”
Lundry, a team captain this year, adds, “It’s exciting to see our team ranked number one, it motivates us to keep working hard in practice everyday.”
The swimmers’ next meet will be Jan. 5 against the Bettendorf Bulldogs.
