The highly anticipated film “Creed III” (2023) hit cinemas on March 3, continuing onto the third chapter of the titular boxer Adonis Creed’s boxing journey. Ryan Coolger and Aaron Covington’s co-writing has brought many to appreciate the world of boxing and to enjoy the watching experience. The $75 million project is now a fan favorite, shooting past box office expectations on its opening weekend to earn $58.7 million.
The Creed franchise, a spinoff of the popular Rocky franchise, starts out with a compelling and gripping story of a young boxer, Adonis Creed, as he pursues his dreams of becoming a boxer. Living in the shadow of his late father, the character faces many foes. When “Creed” (2015) was released, the film was met with massive box office success and numerous positive ratings from raving critics.
The following movie continued to highlight Creed’s life in and outside the ring. As he deals with fame, family and legacy, he hopes to become a champion.
A fan of the first two movies, senior Daniel Zietlow, feels excited to watch Adonis Creed’s next life progression in “Creed III.” “I loved the first two films. The main characters’ development brings such attention to family relationships, hard work, and determination, and I think the third movie will only keep bringing those factors to a higher intensity,” Zietlow said.
Actor Michael B Jordan, starred in and directed the film as his directorial debut, which has managed to market the biggest domestic opening for a sports movie ever. The threequel has the largest box office opening than any other Rocky movie produced.
Played by Sylvester Stalone, Rocky is a major character in the film who had a great impact on the character development of Adonis Creed, but unfortunately he did not return for the third film. Stallone broke the news that he would not continue his role as Rocky in the threequel and this is the first of the Rocky movies that the character will not appear in.
Zietlow feels that losing Rocky might affect the reactions from fans. “Even though Rocky wasn’t the main character in the series, he still played a big role in Creed’s development. I think that it’s going to be interesting to see if fans will love or hate the third film because Rocky is no longer in the storyline,” Zietlow stated.
As the plot continues to grow for Adonis Creed, so does the fan base. “Creed III” has already boomed with success, and will only continue to build as a series. A moving story about fighting adversity and overcoming personal obstacles, “Creed” continues to be a highly revered movie with fans eager to watch the next installment of the series. As the plot continues to grow for Adonis Creed, the Creed films perpetually resonate with audiences and can only build as a series.
