J.K. Rowling’s blockbuster book series, through the exciting story telling, enthralling plot and endless humor and fun, has attracted millions of fans from around the world. One of the major factors that has drawn people to the series is the complex and interesting characters with whom people form connections. People have many different choices for their favorite characters, some valuing the humor of the character, some the intelligence and others the overall importance. Weighing these factors, this is who I believe are the top ten characters from “Harry Potter”.
- Hermione
Without her quick logic and careful organization, Harry and Ron would have had no chance of making it through all of the adventures they did without her. Hermione was easily the most important character in ensuring things went the way they should have.
- Snape
While many dislike Snape through the series, we see how much more complex of a character he is in the end than he first appears. His courage and loyalty made him one of the most beloved characters.
- Sirius
Sirius provided the father-like figure to Harry that was appreciated by many readers. His strong friendships and unending loyalty, as well as his entertaining rivalry with Snape, has led to him becoming the favorite of many people.
- Neville
Similarly to many other characters on this list, Neville is the epitome of loyalty and courage. From the first book to the last, he did what was right, even when it went against his own friends.
- Hagrid
As the first sign of magic in the series, many readers latch onto Hagrid as the character they like the most. His child-like innocence and loyalty has been a key component in gaining the love of a myriad of fans.
- Fred and George
Fred and George provided the comedic component of the series that was necessary to keep it from being too serious. Their jokes and pranks helped to entertain readers even during the least exciting parts.
- Harry
As the main character, many may assume Harry would be at the top of the list. However, he is moody and angry for much of the series. Even so, he is deserving of being in the top ten as he still does what is best in the end and provides many entertaining moments.
- Ron
Similarly to Harry, Ron got pushed down the list due to his constant moodiness and anger. But he too is an important character who provides entertainment and loyalty throughout the series.
- Dumbledore
As is common in novels, Dumbledore fills the role of the wise character who advises the protagonist. His wisdom, crazy personality and the care he has for Harry and the other characters has led to him becoming a top character in the series.
- Draco Malfoy
While he is Harry’s main rival, he ends up showing he is not a bad person but has been a result of a rough childhood. Many people can relate to his character which, with his constant entertaining banter with Harry, has factored into him becoming a top character.
