Senior Henry Gannaway has been playing soccer for 11 years and has committed to Notre Dame. Gannaway is one of the captains on Pleasant Valley’s varsity soccer team and practices almost 6 days a week. His favorite soccer team is Chelsea, much to his own displeasure.
While Gannaway hasn’t won anything yet, this year looks promising with Gannaway scoring 4 goals in one game himself against Central Dewitt. The varsity team is leading the MAC at the time of this article.
“I just do soccer because I find it really fun to play and also pretty low stress,” Gannaway stated. “I’m glad I get to do what I love on a weekly basis: play soccer and do homework.”
As an avid learner, Gannaway loves to challenge himself, taking tedious classes like AP Lit and AP French. He claims to find the obstacles as entertaining and great ways to enjoy himself in the company of friends. Among this impressive class load, Gannaway also got a 36 on the ACT. He also enjoys driving his white Toyota named Baymaximus Decimus Meridias.
“Henry has always been a potent weapon for the team,” commented senior Ezra Welch, a midfielder for the varsity team. “He’s a true leader and part of the reason we’re going to go far this year.”
Outside of the classroom he can be found being an executive for Model UN, being a productive member of the student council and social committee or driving on the green with his friends.
This season, Henry has a 50.0% shot on goal percentage, meaning he makes half the shots on goal that he takes, the second highest on the team. He has 1 assist and 9 points on the season.
“I really enjoy playing the sport and hope to continue it into the future. I really believe that this year the varsity team has a good chance at winning,” said Gannaway.
Gannaway has been a huge fan of Notre Dame since his childhood, making his commitment very simple for him. The combination of curricular challenge and athletic prestige made it the perfect place for such an intelligent, strong and powerful individual.
