RAP or nap?

RAP, or “right after prom” as they call it, is where high schoolers go after prom at the River Center back to the high school where they play games, eat food and do various activities. There are blow ups, blackjack tables, a raffle with prizes, a photo booth, the fan favorite hypnotist, and various snacks and drinks including pizza, ice cream, and desserts.

RAP provides good activities that keeps kids out of trouble. Many of the students look forward to the last part of the evening, the hypnotist.

Senior, Claire Park, said, “I would be very disappointed if RAP was canceled because some of the best memories from prom are made there. Seeing your friends getting hypnotized is definitely something to remember.”

The event runs from 12am to 3am and every year the RAP committee is looking for volunteers that can help out at the event. There are volunteer positions needed for check in, serving food, game table hosts, bouncy house monitors, organizers for the raffle and many more. The event can’t function without volunteers. Although some can’t bear to stay up that late in the night, RAP can only function with donations from parents and businesses. In order for the event to function, think about becoming a volunteer or donating to the fund.

Senior, Alison Vankeulen, said, “RAP is so fun because it has different activities that aren’t offered at other dances. It also gives us something safe to do after the dance and is something I look forward to at prom. It’s one of my favorite things of the night and without it, prom wouldn’t be the same.”

Many parents support this event because they know their child is at a safe location with appropriate activities. The RAP committee even has a special policy that allows parents to have the opportunity to be notified if their child leaves the event early.

Mrs. Peters, art teacher at PV, said, “It’s really important for kids to have a supervised place after prom with activities that are actually fun and not lame for the kids. I believe RAP is a really great event.”

I love to work out and babysit young kids. I chose to be the social media manager because I believe it’s the easiest way to communicate news to students about important info going on around the school.
