On Wednesday, May 3, Pleasant Valley senior athletes from every sport came together to honor each other’s athletic successes. This night is put in place as a special recognition to all senior athletes for their participation in Pleasant Valley athletics. “I like how it was just for the seniors. It’s nice to have something special just for us,” said senior, Katie Morrissey.
The night kicked off with PV athletic director, D’anne Kroemer, introducing the night’s speakers. Seniors, Claire Park and Sam Lundry, were chosen to speak about the impact PVHS athletics has had on their lives and what they have learned from being an athlete. Claire Park was also recognized as being the Pleasant Valley female athlete of the year. Sriram Sugumaran was named the Pleasant Valley male athlete of the year.
Aside from athlete of the year, the other awards that were given out included tri-athlete students. This year’s tri-athletes included Emily Bruinsma, Claire Park, Hannah Humes, Cameron Trentz, and Michael Meyers. The tri-athlete award is given to all students who have participated in three sports senior year.
All of those who attended the banquet received an award for being a part of a varsity sport senior year. The athletes received their awards on stage from Kroemer, Mike Dippel, booster club president, and high school principal, Mike Zimmer. “I was scared that I was going to trip when I went on the stage,” said senior, Carson Sutherland.
As the night came to a close, Kroemer gave a final salute to the senior athletes and bid them farewell as they continue their athletics and academics in college. “It was fun being able to be recognized with the senior class for all of our athletic achievements,” said senior, Michael Showers, future St. Ambrose golfer. Kremer also gave a heartfelt goodbye to Dippel, as he will be stepping down from his position as the athletic booster club president.
