When this graduating class looks to say farewell to Pleasant Valley this May, its students will be a little more unique than years past. Roughly 30 members of the senior class were the first graduating grade of Hopewell Elementary, the newest of the elementary schools, which opened six years ago. Being the first graduating class of sixth graders from Hopewell and now apart of the class of 2018, students and faculty knew that there was something needed to celebrate this.
Sydney Prochaska, a senior, agrees that the Hopewell alumni and soon-to-be graduates are worth some attention. Prochaska believes that this should be celebrated by installing a Hopewell Scholarship for dedicated to a senior who attended the elementary school. “When looking to apply for these scholarships, I wanted to make sure I had the same scholarship opportunity as others and wanted to make sure Hopewell created a similar scholarship opportunity. Elementary school is always a big part of each kids schooling experience, and so I wanted the first year at Hopewell to be commemorated through the making of this,” she says.
In order to receive the Hopewell scholarship, the senior must have been a graduating member of the sixth-grade class. The same rules apply for the other four elementary schools in the Pleasant Valley district. “The foundation designated funding to include Hopewell with the other elementary schools,” Mrs. Tucker says.
Seniors who attended Hopewell Elementary are eligible to and should apply for this scholarship. Because of the small graduating class size at Hopewell, the competition for the scholarship isn’t as strong as other elementary scholarships. With the growing district and age added onto Hopewell, the scholarship will be very competitive to attain in the future. That’s why right now is the perfect time to apply: Hopewell Alumni now is your time to shine.

I like how they used their quotes, and the lead set the tone for the story. There was a plethora of sources as well.

That’s an awesome topic! I kind of forgot that this is the first generation of Hopewell students and it’s pretty cool that there’s another scholarship opportunity.
