As a goldsmith, he works with customers to create custom designed jewelry as well as routine maintenance and repairs for jewelries. In an interview, Revell shared some of the highlights and interesting facts about having a job that’s also serves as a great conversation starter.
What do you do everyday as a goldsmith?
I help customers with cleaning and polishing jewelries as well as repair such as rejoining chains, sizing rings and stone setting, putting gems in rings.
What made you interested in goldsmithing?
I grew up in this environment and gained interest in stones and metal work. I have always been very artistic as well.
What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?
It’s very different from common teenage jobs. My favourite part of my job is that I get to do something new everyday and work with some truly great people.
What’s the least enjoyable part of your job?
I am still learning to be a better goldsmith, therefore, some work related injuries, such as cuts and burns, are unavoidable. It’s also annoying to work with rude customers who think they know more than me.
How is it like to work for your father?
It’s obviously a very unique experience and I enjoy working with someone who is very knowledgeable and has 35 years of experience in goldsmithing. However, it can be aggravating at times. I’m treated more as a worker than a son. Although many think it’s difficult, it’s not difficult to separate work from home.
What was the highlight of your job?
I made a pendant from scratch materials. It was sold on the first day it was completed in an suction. It was cool to see my work had already captured the heart of someone.
Can we get free stuff from you?
No.
