Pleasant Valley’s Evan Crawford recently gave his verbal commitment to Missouri S&T to continue playing baseball at the Division II level. Crawford, a 3 year varsity baseball player, has been playing baseball since he was 3 years old and has always known he wanted to play at the next level.
For Crawford, once he visited Missouri S&T he knew he could see himself there in the future. “I liked the coaching staff and the guys,” Crawford states. “Also they are one of the best engineering schools in the country.” The Miners went 26-23 last season and Crawford hopes to bring a positive impact for the team.
Although competitive, Crawford is well liked among his teammates. Teammate Carter Hoskins, a junior on the baseball team, comments on Crawford as a teammate. “He has the most power on the team so he supplies us with a lot of RBI’s,” Hoskins said. “He’s really sarcastic but a great teammate and he has taught me a lot.” Crawford played left field for the Spartans and had a .303 batting average. This upcoming season, Crawford will be taking on a new role as a first basemen and will be making a few appearances on the mound.
Once the Spartans’ 2018 season comes to an end, Crawford will be moving on to the next chapter of his life. “My favorite highlight was going to Omaha last year,” Crawford commented. “But I’m looking forward to playing for a good school while getting a great degree.” Crawford plans on taking his education very seriously while competing on the baseball team, and hopes to go into engineering.
As a team that went 21-19 last season, the Spartans have already started to set goals for the new season . The Spartans hope to have 30 wins and to make a run at a state championship.
