Pleasant Valley Girls Swimming and Diving team snatched second place at Saturday’s MAC Championship invitational in Muscatine. As their season came to a close, the girls excelled in their races and looked back on an unforgettable season.
The junior varsity team may have come in second to their rival team, Bettendorf, but they were still very proud of their accomplishments of the season. As senior captain Katie Oros said, “The team this year did an amazing job, even though we didn’t end up on top.” Along with their high-placed finish came successful time drops. According to Oros, many swimmers achieved season and lifetime best times.
Oros, among others, had an outstanding meet Saturday. She won first place in both of her individual events, the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. She was also on two relays that each took second place. As Oros said, “We tried our best and swam some great races. I’m proud of everyone for cheering on their teammates and those who left everything in the pool.”
PVGSD also includes diving, and freshmen diver Lilly Revell represented the team at Saturday’s meet. Lilly just began diving at the beginning of this season and came out of MAC with an impressive fourth place. As she said of the meet, “I was happy with how I did at MAC because I saw my improvements which I felt very confident in this season.”
This season has been a very special one for many of the swimmers. The large senior class will be leaving the team, but a strong freshmen class came in just in time to replace them. The team has talent coming from all classes and the legacy will live on as the younger girls continue to improve. Oros stated she was excited to see how the team continues to do at the end of this season and the coming ones.
