Pleasant Valley student Ceely Patramanis showing off her makeup art.
A new medium for art is on the rise: makeup. Makeup used to be simply for making yourself look more appealing to the eye, but lately makeup has become a means of art and expression.
There are a few students at Pleasant Valley High School who are taking part in this exciting new art form. This art form grew from creators who shared their makeup looks on YouTube. As more makeup artists came onto the scene, each one needed to try new and interesting things to gain attention, thus turning makeup into works of art.
One artist who enjoys looking to YouTube for her inspiration is Ella Litchfield, sophomore. She enjoys using her talents in the drama makeup department. She had recently used cut creases in the “Wrinkle In Time” show for three characters. The makeup look of which she is most proud is a cool colored cut crease. She said, “I pulled inspiration for this look from YouTube creators.”
Ceely Patramanis, sophomore, (@makeup.by.ceely) is another makeup artist at PV. She started doing makeup because she wanted to try something new. She said, “My favorite look is a warm colored half-cut crease.” She enjoys this look because she was playing around with new products when creating it which is something she always enjoys doing.
Artist Rachel Lyon, sophomore, also applies her makeup skills in the drama department. Unlike the other artists, she enjoys doing a natural glam look more, occasionally experimenting with the colorful, bold looks. Her favorite look she has done is one she did on current senior Lauren G. for some of her senior photos.
Artist Katie Gropel, junior, enjoys doing makeup because it is relaxing to sit down and just play with different colors and see what goes good with what. She believes makeup gives her a way to express her creativity in a way she wasn’t able to before. “I’ve never been good at drawing or painting but I’ve always had a love for art so once I discovered makeup on YouTube I gave it a try and I love just to mess around with looks and have fun with it,” she said. Her favorite look is this pink winged eye look.
