Alright, admittedly that this article would be more “useful” if it had been published before homecoming; Nevertheless, these invaluable instructions can be applied in asking a girl out on a date, too prom, or even a movie. On a quest to find the best way to ask a girl to homecoming.
Five guys were interviewed, (with and without dates), including a member of the homecoming court, and one girl for the other perspective. The responses varied in length and clarity depending on how passionately they feel about a certain part of the topic. But in all, the lessons learned from these, (plus extra tips) should be enough to give you an idea of what to do. First us we’ll go over each of the interviews individually and then we’ll go over the musts and do NOT’s on asking someone special out.
Starting with the prospective homecoming king himself Evin Ersan. The most important tip gleaned from speaking with him was confidence and honesty. “Don’t try to be someone you’re not, but be the best you can be,” was a recurring theme in our interview. He also added some cursory advice such as, “check if she has a boyfriend.”
Next is Luke Brandmeyer, a senior who has gone to homecoming in the past and will be coming this year as well. “Know the girl a little,” he says, “no-one wants a random guy they talked to maybe once to ask them to a dance.” Solid advice, also in the self explanatory department, “have good hygiene.”
Brandmeyer finished with something that might sound cheesy, “You have to have a good line.” Sometimes, knowing how your going to ask is half the battle. The problem is when you get so focused on what you’re trying to say you forget how to talk about anything else.
Also interviewed was Braden Brockedge. From this interview a clear time was given, two weeks or earlier is when you should be asking girls out to important events, and not earlier. They have a TON of stuff to do to get ready for these things and giving them as much time as possible is greatly appreciated.
Brenna Morley, also a senior, says that, posters are “not necessary but nice.” Which means that you should probably make the poster. Especially for larger dances, ex: Prom. It’s 7 dollars for the materials and think of a funny pun/inside joke. It’s worth it.
Also, “a good pun is better than an inside joke.” The jury’s still out on that one. A good inside joke is still gold, but take an opinion with a grain of salt. Also, “food is awesome,” the advice to shy or nervous guys was, “even if your scared still go for it.”
That’s the motto here gentlemen, even with all of these interviews the consensus was always to go for it, and take your chance, shoot your shot, bite the bone? Think of it this way if you don’t, you’ll beat yourself up for a lifetime. And if you do(and follow these steps) you’ll have a homecoming night for the ages.
