The Pleasant Valley football team finally etched that illustrious number “one” in the win column Friday night. It took four games into the 2019 season for them to get a win.
The Spartans defense stepped up once again, but this time the offense responded too. Cornerback Ali Francois said, “It feels good for everything to come together finally, and we look to keep that going” he said. The Central Blue Devils were no match for the powerful offense and defense they faced.
Spartans quarterback Ryan Mumey passed for 142 yards and rushed for 114 while racking up 4 touchdowns. All of his touchdowns were counted for in the first half.
The first play from scrimmage was a 46 yard run from Mumey. With their hot start, it only took the Spartans their first two drives to surpass their total yards gained against North Scott.
Receiver Ben Wilson had his first touchdown reception of the year along with junior Matt Mickle. The poor pass defense was no match for the overpowering air raid the Spartans unleashed.
The glamorous offense the Spartans brought forth was by far the best showing of the year. They had more touchdowns Friday night, than they had the whole season coming into the game.
The Spartans hope this will turn their season around and push them towards state for the second year in a row. “We’ll focus on the small things in practice this week, that’s what hurt us in our losses” said senior lineman Jake Bradley.
The Spartans will host Iowa City West on the 27th.
