During the fall, students and teachers have the same goal to gather food for the Student Hunger Drive, and Spartan Assembly helps PV organize, motivate and donate the food to the River Bend Food Bank. The executives of this committee hold a vital position in making sure the hunger drive is successful year after year.
The Student Hunger Drive helps many people around the Quad Cities each year, and students at PV are part of the solution. The executive committee is the driving force that motivates the student body to help those who are food insecure.
Group advisor Barbra Piscke will be advising these students for the 2019-2020 school year. She said “ These five students really have a passion for the Student Hunger Drive. Putting that together with being good leaders makes collecting food so much easier.” These students leaders enjoy the challenge that comes with motivating students to help the community.
One important aspect of the Student Hunger Drive the executive committee is in charge of is keeping track of the statistics. Last year, the executives figured out on average, each student brought 40 pounds of food. They also kept track of every can that was brought into the school. These organizational skills lead to PV donating the most cans out of any school in the Quad City area.
One member of the executive committee is Muskan Basnet. She, said “This is definitely my favorite time of the year. We actually get to see the results of the work that we do which is so exciting.” With all the hard work Spartan Assembly executives do, they like to see all of their hard work pay off in a positive way.
According to the River Bend Food bank, one out of six kids is food insecure in the Quad Cities. The students who donate items to the hunger drive are helping lots of people.
Students at Pleasant Valley volunteer for the Student Hunger Drive in hopes of making a difference in the community, and the role of the Spartan Assembly executives is to make sure students are most effective in their efforts.
