Throughout the 2010s, hit movies such as “Inception”, “Joker” and “Avengers: Endgame” have topped the charts with innovative storylines and cutting-edge special effects.

According to IMDb, the highest rated movie released from 2010 to 2019 was “Inception” (2010) with eight point eight stars out of ten. One fan of this movie, senior Kishore Vijaykumar, said, “This is one of my favorite movies because the plot is so original and the acting is incredible.”

However, a survey of PV students found that only eight percent of high schoolers consider “Inception” to be the “movie of the decade,” while 25 percent chose “Avengers: Endgame” (2019).

A large part of the intrigue of “Avengers: Endgame” was the cutting-edge special effects. Senior Luke Law said, “The villain was entirely created by special effects, so new technology really made Endgame the film of the decade.”

With an accumulation of over $853 million in domestic box offices across the country, “Avengers: Endgame” was the highest grossing movie of the decade and the second highest grossing movie of all time, just $83 million behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Many consider the “Avengers” franchise to be the movie series of the 2010s due to its continuous success throughout the decade. The first release, “Avengers” was the highest grossing movie of 2012 and the first Marvel production to generate over $1 billion worldwide.

The second movie in this series, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, was released three years later in 2015. This film became the second most expensive movie ever created.

The last two movies in the “Avengers” series were released within one year of each other. “Avengers: Infinity War” was the highest rated movie of 2018, and “Avengers: Endgame” topped charts in 2019. Junior Srikanth Ganesh said, “Endgame is definitely the movie of the decade. There was so much hype around it and people talked about it for months.”
