The Pleasant Valley wrestling team hit a big milestone this season with sending five wrestlers to state and qualifying for regional team duals for the second year in a row. They had not encountered this level of success in years.
Senior and team captain Hunter Meyrer noticed a dramatic shift in the team’s ability over the years. “I came in as a freshman and our team was taking dead last in every meet and every dual” he stated. The team was not wrestling as a team and group, but rather individually, which Meyrer believes hindered their success.
In order to develop, the team needed some leaders to step up. “Coming into my junior year I knew we had a few guys that would make a difference,” Meyrer said. He and other leaders ended up leading the team to regional team duals in their 2019-2020 season, but their development was not finished yet
This season saw even more development and success for the PV wrestling program. “We qualified for team duals two years in a row and qualified 5 wrestlers to the state tournament,” Jacob Larsen, head coach of the PV wrestling program, exclaimed.
Sending five wrestlers to state is a huge milestone for PV wrestling. It shows that PV is now a force to be reckoned with on the mat and portrays the development of the team initiated by team elders these past few seasons. This success will carry into future seasons and future success.
Many also believe that next year looks promising for the PV’s ever-growing program. “With 4 out of the 5 state qualifiers returning next season I look forward to even more success from the team and the program,” Larsen stated. With the younger grades of the team having state wrestling under their belt, they have the experience to become great leaders and lead the team onto more successful seasons. “I look forward to even more success from the team and the program,” Larsen shared .
The extreme development of the PV wrestling team will now carry into the future of PV wrestling, and lead the program into future success.

Great article about the wrestling team and how they were very successful. It’s good to put a spotlight on the programs that are on the rise and are becoming more competitive.
