5: “The 23rd” (Season 1, Episode 9)

One of the first holiday episodes of the series, “The 23rd” provides a fun episode filled with awkward and embarrassing moments. Whether it’s Jess replying with “Thank you” to her boyfriend’s confession of love or Schmidt being forced to dress up as sexy Santa, the comedy never fails to stop this episode. However, the episode also highlights the care the characters have for each other. Despite their own problems, they come together at the end to celebrate Christmas and lift each other up.

4: “Cooler” (Season 2, Episode 15)

The title of this episode references what the boys, Nick, Schmidt and Winston call Jess as their excuse to leave her home on their night out. However, Jess starts getting lonely and calls them back home, leading to a fun, drunk game of True American with Jess, the boys and the girls they met at the bar. However, the most iconic moment takes place at the end of this episode with a serious, abrupt and passionate kiss between Nick and Jess, also making it one of the most iconic kisses throughout the series.

3: “All In” (Season 3, Episode 1)

The first episode of Season 3 marks the beginning of Jess and Nick’s romantic relationship. Their desire to be alone with each other leads to many comedic mishaps, including driving to Mexico and getting stuck in a resort jail. Although they eventually arrive at the loft, they realize that having their relationship be a bubble doesn’t work. Nick and Jess realize they need their friends, despite their occasional annoying nature. All together, this episode was both funny and heartwarming.

2: “Background Check” (Season 4, Episode 6)

One of the funniest episodes of the series, “Background Check” highlights the crazy nature of the characters and the lengths they take to protect their friends. The episode starts out with Winston announcing that he has an in-house background check from the police academy. Then Jess reveals to everyone but Winston that she had accidentally come to possess a stash of meth and urges everyone to create a plan to dispose of it. As they come up with and enact their wild plans, they eventually get caught. However, the cop who is doing the background check reveals to everyone that Jess’s meth was not meth, but rather aquarium rocks, providing a happy ending to the episode

1: “Landing Gear” (Season 5, Episode 22)

This is the most iconic episode of the series: The marriage of Schmidt and Cece. This couple went through a lot of ups and downs in their relationship throughout the 5 seasons, but they managed to make it through. A wild but sweet episode with many moments that make the audience wonder, “Oh no, will they really get married this episode?”, “Landing Gear” does a great job of showing the love Schmidt and Cece have for each other. Although this episode contains other emotional revelations as well, Schmidt and Cece’s commitment and dedication to each other carries the most weight in this funny yet emotional episode.
