The Batman (2022) is seen protecting the city streets, lurking in the shadows.

The year 2022 has been a year filled with many great movies. For those who want to catch up on the best of this year, here is a list of the best movies of 2022.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

This movie has everything. Anybody who got to see this masterpiece in theaters should consider themselves lucky to experience such a unique experience. The Daniels came together to make the craziest multiverse movie yet, rising as  the standalone best of the subgenre. This movie takes the very basic plot of conflict between parent and child and twists it through some of the wildest sequences to produce pure emotion. It is visually and sonically stunning and has the ability to make you gasp, laugh and cry all in a span of 10 minutes. “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is truly a unique movie that cannot be fully explained in words. This is not just one of the best movies of this year, but one of the best of all time.

RRR

Going international, “RRR” is an Indian Telugu movie that was released in the spring. This three-hour epic goes by so quickly thanks to its nonstop action. With captivating characters and the budding friendship of the main protagonists Bheem and Rama, played by NTR Jr. and Ram Charan, this movie blows the average action film out of the water. These borderline superhuman characters battle it out in a revolutionary tale as the two attempt to fight back against colonial Britain. Between throwing a lion and having a literal dance battle, “RRR” is certain to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

Top Gun: Maverick

Nostalgia, patriotism and the beach scene: this sequel of the hit 1987 movie was without a doubt the movie of the summer. A surprise to many who loved the first movie, “Top Gun: Maverick” topped the original. There was an undeniable buzz about the loveable characters played by Tom Cruise and Miles Teller. Beyond just the attractive cast and extremely well produced  flight scenes, this movie had a very touching storyline. These navy pilots all intertwine into one amazing plot. Combining all of these factors, “Top Gun: Maverick” was one of the biggest surprises of the year, and many still consider it to be the best movie this year.

The Batman

Thursday, Oct.31. The city streets are crowded for the holiday. Even with the rain. Hidden in the chaos is the element, waiting to strike like snakes. And I’m there too. Watching. 2 years of nights have turned me into a nocturnal animal. I must choose my targets carefully. It’s a big city. I can’t be everywhere. But they don’t know where I am. We have a signal now, for when I’m needed. When that light hits the sky, it’s not just a call- it’s a warning. To them. Fear is a tool. They think I’m hiding in the shadows.

But I AM the shadows.

“The Batman” blessed the world with the stunning lead cast of Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz. This Batman is what many believe a true Batman should be like, a recluse who lives in the dark. Playing more into the noir genre than the preceding Batmans, this movie is a three hour nailbiter as Pattinson playing Bruce Wayne slowly uncovers the mystery set forth by the main villain, The Riddler. Starkly different from other superhero films of recent times, “The Batman” is a solid candidate for being one of the greatest comic book movies of all time. This movie has also produced one of the coldest opening monologues ever. It gives straight chills everytime.

Minions: Rise of Gru

Best known among high schoolers for the memes and the people dressing up, “Minions: Rise of Gru” was one of the biggest hits this year. With something for viewers of all ages, this movie was a short and lighthearted movie with some of our favorite little yellow characters. This movie amassed $920 million in box office sales and continues to show the immense popularity of these loveable minions.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Marvel’s latest installment in the MCU is a sequel to the wildly famous original, “Black Panther” (2018). This movie has to adapt due to the death of actor Chadwick Boseman and protagonist T’Challa in both real life and in the plot. Previously smaller roles had a bigger presence in this sequel like T’Challa’s sister Shuri. This movie is filled with action and is one of the better things to come out of Marvel after what seems like a quiet 2022.
