PV’s volleyball season ended last week at the state semifinals where they lost to Dowling Catholic. The volleyball team overcame many obstacles this year to get to this spot, considering that 10 players graduated last year.
This year’s team consisted of one senior, Molly Albrecht, who led the team as the libero. Due to the lack of seniors, many underclassmen were key players on the team such as sophomore Isabelle Kremer and freshman Addi Allaman.
Because of the lack of seniors, many people were surprised at how well PV did this season.
Senior Ethan Cline has been invested in the volleyball team due to his sister, who recently graduated from PV and played on the volleyball team. “Chloe left last year and so did almost the whole team. I honestly didn’t expect much from this year’s team, but it was amazing to see how they pulled through with a great performance at state,” said Cline.
One of the main reasons for PV’s success was the team’s dedication in practice and ability to work together. Communication is extremely important in volleyball, and the team was able to develop their teamwork by bonding during practices and after games.
Even with multiple new players, everyone was able to do their part on the team. “The team chemistry was great this year. I feel as though we all clicked immediately and that really helped with all of our successes this year,” commented Allaman.
Although they had an amazing finish at state, the team is already thinking about how they can improve next year. “The team as a whole feels proud of how the season ended. We were not even ranked going into the season so ending up tying for third made us all very happy. We always know that there is room for improvement especially since we were such a young team this year,” continued Alllaman
With only one senior graduating, the team will keep almost all of its players next year. The team is extremely hopeful, as everyone has gained valuable experience and confidence needed for another amazing season.
