Camille Wood has been an important member of PVHS’s varsity golf team ever since she started high school.
“My interest in golf comes from my family ties to it. My dad has played since he was young and my brothers were members of PV’s golf team too. I have been playing since I was young, but I really got into golf around three years ago,” shared Wood.
The PV’s girls golf team won the state championship for two consecutive years– both in 2023 and 2024. As a member of the championship team, Wood trains throughout the year in preparation for the spring season. Throughout the winter, she goes to golf simulators and attends lessons at Augustana College to maintain her game. She trains everyday and tries to go out to play at least twice a week.Wood’s training pays off. Her lowest round of the season is 74 at Thunder Hills Country Club, and her scoring average is 78.3.
“I always make sure to give my best effort,” expressed Wood. “You can’t change what has happened in the past, but you can always look ahead to the next shot.”
Beyond golf, Wood is involved in the art program at the Bereskin Art Academy that she has attended for over 10 years. She is also an avid student involved in various Advanced Placement and honors courses.
Her positive attitude and work ethic have been a pivotal asset to the girls’ golf team.
“Camille sets an example for me to strive to be the best player I can be. She never fails to uplift and support the team in any way she can,” said sophomore varsity golf player Ella Sherrick. “Whether it’s making me laugh at practice or just talking through the round with me, the effect Camille has had on this team will never be forgotten by me or my teammates.”
Whether on the course or in the classroom, Wood exemplifies the true spirit of a student athlete. There is no doubt that she will continue to make a mark at Pleasant Valley High School and beyond.
