When “Avengers: Endgame” became one of the most-watched movies of all time and concluded the Marvel Infinity Saga in 2019, it felt like the Marvel universe was complete with nothing left to the story. The film concluded some of the most beloved main characters’ storylines, such as Captain America and Iron Man.
This left many fans wondering what was going to happen to the universe following this grand finale. Marvel’s shift ended up shocking fans; they completely rebooted the cinematic universe and created something entirely new.
The reboot acted as a reshaping of the universe with brand new characters and unique storylines. Instead of sticking to the old Avengers, Marvel introduced new characters like Shang-Chi, the Eternals and Ms. Marvel.
These characters would be the foundation and start of a new generation for Marvel. Many fans, including junior Om Patel felt very confident that these new characters would be long-term successes as their stories continued. “I think that characters like Shang Chi and Mrs Marvel really brought out a new side of Marvel that people had not seen before,” Patel expressed. “I think people are really going to like how Marvel progresses, and will like it as much as they liked the Marvel saga before Endgame came out.”
Starting this new universe, Marvel has also added many interesting new elements. Marvel expanded the MCU into shows. Shows like “Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Loki” and “WandaVision” gave viewers a new perspective on the MCU. These shows allowed Marvel to explore outside the realm of movies. Although the shows were not as widely viewed as the movies, they demonstrated the direction Marvel could go with their universe, experimenting in different media.
As of now, “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to come out on Dec. 18, 2026. This will be the first Avengers movie following the Marvel reboot. Many fans are interested in how Marvel will incorporate these new characters they have introduced in this new era with pre-existing characters, like Spiderman and Doctor Strange, to make a quality movie that many people will enjoy.
Junior Joshua Dcruz believes that this new movie will have mixed reviews. “I think some people will like this movie and some people will really dislike it. Some people are going to like how Marvel introduced new characters with existing characters, while some people are going to be stuck on the greatness of Endgame,” Dcruz said.
Marvel’s reemergence after “Avengers: Endgame” is not a copy of what it was before; it is a reset. By experimenting with different media and bringing in new characters, Marvel is building their universe back up. The Infinity Saga was about the main characters’ legacies being brought to the forefront, and the new saga is now about the rebirth of Marvel. With Marvel returning in a new form, it isn’t just continuing the superhero universe; it’s rewriting superhero history.
