After the major success of “Wicked,” audiences were on the edge of their seats in anticipation of the final and closing chapter to the beloved story. This year, “Wicked: For Good,” or “Wicked Part 2,” was released on Nov 21, 2025.
The first movie focused heavily on the relationship between the main characters: Glinda, the Good Witch and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch. The second part shifted into the aftermath by showing how the world reacted to the characters and their choices and how famous characters can be born from basic misunderstandings.
The second movie has a much darker tone. It thoughtfully balances fantasy with a surprisingly well-executed message about friendship, loyalty and truth.
Cinematically, “Wicked: For Good” just seemed larger. The plotline was denser to set the stage for the following storylines. Wicked took place in the famous and previously established world of “The Wizard of Oz.” “Wicked: For Good,” set the stage for Dorothy’s timeless story. “Wicked: For Good” is that backstory.
Beyond the general storyline, the second part of the movie allowed the audience to understand the characters in a nuanced manner. For example, the audience saw a multi-dimensional angle of Glinda. Known as the bubbly, vibrant Good Witch, Glinda wrestled with deep feelings of guilt and remorse, as well as struggling with the newfound power she had gained.
For many longtime fans of the Broadway musical, the movie allowed one of their favorite stories to take on a new life, but the movie isn’t just for the average theater goer.
The beauty of Wicked was a common appeal it has to all audiences. The fantasy elements, deep friendships, action and even the large musical numbers allowed both movies to have something for everyone.
“Wicked: For Good” explored the idea of heroes and villains, a struggle between good and evil. It allowed the audience to form a personal perspective on each character’s intentions and actions. Theater-goers and new fans can expect to enjoy the movie alike.
