Teacher Appreciation Day was the first Tuesday of May. Many businesses around the Quad City area showed how much they appreciated teachers. The businesses gave teachers prizes, discounts, and free food.
Chick-fil-a hosted a teacher night on Tuesday May 2, 2017. Teachers could come into Chick-fil-a and grab a free sandwich or chicken nuggets. They thought this would be just one simple way to repay their teachers.
Also on May 2, 2017, Chipotle was offered teachers a burrito, bowl, salad or taco free when they purchased one. This offer was available for parents who homeschool their children as well, but the parents were required to show documentation.
These two businesses aren’t the only ones. Clothing stores were also offering discounts to teachers. Next year, businesses will be posting their deals on Facebook to help teachers find them and to advertise what they are doing for their teachers.
At Pleasant Valley High School, students spoke out about teachers who have affected their lives the most.
Maggie Cory, senior, said, “Mr. Hansen and Mrs. Berger are teachers who I appreciate. In Mr. Hansen’s class, you don’t have to be artistic for him to see talent in your work, and Mrs. Berger truly cares about everyone in her classes.”
Parker Olson, junior, said, “Mr. Putnam is the teacher I appreciate the most because he always made class fun while we were learning.”
Emily Bruinsma, senior, said, “Mme. L. is the teacher I appreciate the most because she really goes out of her way to form relationships with her students.”
Zach Sherman, senior, said, “Mrs. Peters is the teacher I appreciate because she is committed to her job. She is also well educated, so it helps when you have questions.”
Jenna Hoover, senior, said, “Mme. L. is the teacher I appreciate the most because she is a really positive person. She also went to the same college that I am going to, so she is giving me advice.”
Michael Showers, senior, said, “Mr. Youngbauer is the teacher I appreciate the most because he is the FCA leader, and he has been a great role model.”
All teachers have made an impact on their students, and this is a time to repay them.
